Red wines are rarely sweet. Red wine is made from the skins as well, whereas white wine can be made from black or white grapes, red wine can only be made from black grapes. The colouring pigment in the skin makes it red, and various other constituents of the skin alter its taste.Some clarets are extremely dry and some very rich, while others are very bitter.
